Winter at Stagecoach Reservoir

Open sky, snow and mountain views a short drive from Steamboat Springs. The setting is an essential part of the experience — this is sauna in nature, not sauna separated from it.

How long is the drive from Steamboat Springs?

About 25 minutes. Take US-40 to CO-131, then CR-14, turn left into Stagecoach State Park and follow the road down to the marina. Allow longer than the map suggests in winter conditions.

Where do I park?

In the main parking lot next to the marina store. From there it is roughly 100 yards down to the saunas.

Do I need a Colorado Parks pass?

Yes. Stagecoach is a Colorado state park, so every vehicle needs a park pass. A day pass is currently $12 per vehicle. Many Colorado residents already hold an annual pass, which can be added when you register your car.

What are the roads like in winter?

The drive out is a mountain road in a Colorado winter. Allow more time than the map suggests, check conditions before you leave, and make sure your vehicle and tires are suited to snow. Arriving unhurried is part of the experience.

How do I cool down here?

The cold plunge is the reservoir itself. Once it freezes over we cut through the ice to keep access open, so plunging is available right through the winter.

Authentic wood-fired sauna

Our off-grid cedar saunas are heated with wood-fired Finnish-style stoves. The result is a softer, more atmospheric heat, with the glow of the fire and the ritual of steam creating an experience that feels both elemental and deeply welcoming.

Cedar

Warm, aromatic cedar benches create a simple, comfortable interior designed for sitting, reclining and sharing the experience with others.

Löyly

Pouring water over heated stones creates löyly — the wave of steam at the heart of Finnish sauna culture. It changes the feel of the room in an instant and turns heat into ritual.

The drive is worth it.

Sessions run Thursday through Sunday, 5 November to 25 April.
